HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

      The Department of History was initiated in the year 1972 with intermediate course under the headship of Rev.Sr. Fabiana, Professor of History. The Under-graduation Course with specialization in Tourism was sponsored by the University Grants Commission for 5 yrs from 2001 to 2006.The Department was upgraded to the status of a Research department in 2012 so as to provide Research facilities for students. An add-on Course in Eco -Tourism was sanctioned by the UGC in the year 2011 – 2013. The post Gradution in History was started from 2017 onwards. The Department focuses on creating genuine bureaucrats for nation building by providing a platform through Holy Cross IAS Academy which commenced in the year 2017. The Department also hosts a museum which was established in 2009 which contains wide exhibits of Numismatics , Palm leaf manuscripts, stamp collection and an old fossil which belongs to the 2nd Cent. A.D. The Department strives to play a vital role by inculcating a fervor for patriotism, coupled with inclusion, and equal participation in order to create a gender just and humane society.

      To provide excellent teaching and learning environment by development of knowledge and appreciation of history through self evaluation, personality development and guide students towards perfection and competence.
