Department Profile
The Department of Social Work was started in 2007 with two specializations namely, Family and Child Welfare and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. Over the years, it has expanded to offer comprehensive training across all four major specializations of professional social work.
Our Journey
The department has expanded its academic repertoire and specialized domains over the years:
Started offering MSW with Family & Child Welfare and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work specializations.
Introduced the Community Development Management (CDM) specialization.
Introduced the Human Resource Management (HRM) specialization.
Launched student startup “JEEVAN” and “YANIV” Organic Farming Incubation Center.
Uniqueness
- We offer all the four specializations (M&P, F&C, CDM, HRM).
- JEEVAN – A startup initiated by student volunteers in 2023.
- YANIV – An Organic Farming Incubation Center established in 2023.
- The Department encourages children of the grassroots level for admission.
- 60% of the students are first-generation graduates.
- Every year our alumni take care of two deserving students’ education.
- Assured industrial job placement for graduating students facilitated by our alumni network.
- Four students appeared for Ph.D. entrance and cleared the examination.
- Two students cleared UGC-NET.
- Two faculty members are RCI-registered Social Work counsellors who conduct counselling for community members seeking assistance.
- Active network of collaborating organizations functioning across the nation with the Social Work Department.
- The Department holds two consultancy programs with TVS Motors and TN Police Trichy District.
- Students coordinate with street children on Sundays to help them learn English and moral values through Field Work Organizations.
- Illustrious alumni hold prominent positions including Heads of Departments, CEOs, successful entrepreneurs, police officials in India, Project Head at WHO (US), and psychiatric counsellors in London.
- Book released in 2023 titled “New Normal Parenting Keys.”
- Students actively work as volunteers with regional NGOs beyond the formal curriculum.

Mission
The Department of Social Work is commissioned to create social consciousness for human wellbeing together with bridging the research gap to address social issues and enhance people’s welfare through collaboration with organizations at the state and national levels.
