Scope
The programmes of the PG and Research Department of Rehabilitation Science are built around three families of competencies — knowledge, skill, and value or behaviour — that together prepare graduates for comprehensive practice in disability rehabilitation:
Knowledge-Based Competencies
- Understanding disabilities, child development and psychosocial implications, with a shift from the medical to the bio-psycho-social model.
- Awareness of disability rights legislation, policies, employment markets and rehabilitation programme planning.
Skill-Based Competencies
- Conduct client assessments, offer counselling and develop vocational training for Persons with Disabilities to match their abilities with job opportunities.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, monitor progress and update rehabilitation plans, while utilizing modern technologies like IoT.
Value or Behaviour-Based Competencies
- Advocate for inclusive practices, ensuring equity and quality in rehabilitation, with a focus on social inclusion and independent living.
- Involve the community and empower families through partnerships and advocacy for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
