History
The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology was established in Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli in the year 2010. The department is affiliated to Bharathidasan University and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), placing its academic and clinical training within a nationally regulated professional framework.
Since its inception, the department has worked with the motto to serve people with communication disorders. Its main objectives are to bring out qualified professionals who can independently identify, diagnose and plan intervention for various Speech and Hearing disorders, and to create awareness among the general population about communication disorders across every segment of society.
The department also serves as a Resource Centre for other organizations and individuals in the field of Speech and Hearing, and strives to train skilled and committed professionals for the benefit of the society.
To further strengthen its interdisciplinary reach, the department was included in the “SCHOOL OF REHABILITATION & BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES” in the year 2017, promoting collaborative and experiential learning. With more than a decade and a half of service, the department continues to combine quality education, active research and community-based clinical care.

Uniqueness
B. ASLP is a 4-year professional degree program approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The students undergo 6 semesters (3 years) of course work and 2 semesters (1 year) of internship. It is designed for students to develop the diagnostic and clinical skills required for the assessment and management of disorders of speech, language, swallowing, hearing and balance. Students are motivated to perform research activities during the course of the program, and actively participate in various camps and community promotional activities related to the assessment and management of speech, language and hearing disabilities.
