Centre for E-Content Development

To enhance the teaching-learning process through technology, Holy Cross College initiated to develop a knowledge repository system in the form of D-space lessons during the academic year 2006-2007. From 2007 onwards, members of the staff were trained to develop E- content lessons to use in their class room teaching.

Smart Board Teaching:


Smart class is a digital initiative, which is rapidly transforming the teaching-learning process. During the year 2014-15, 13 smart boards (Interactive white boards) were installed in various departments to make the class more interactive and gain a virtual, flexible smart class room teaching experience. Student assignments and seminars were also done through smart boards. PPT presentation, accessing internet became a part of their ICT enabled teaching learning process.

Establishment of the Centre:


Realizing the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in education, the Government of India has taken several initiatives. This led to the venture of ‘Centre for E-Content Development’ on 24th November 2017, which was inaugurated by Dr. S. Senthilnathan, UGC, HRDC, BDU, Tiruchirappalli. Rev. Sr. Dr. Christina Bridget, Principal, Holy Cross College, Tiruchirappalli felicitated the Inauguration. The resource person spoke on the need for ICT mode of teaching –learning in Higher Educational Institutions and the availability of various Funding Agencies for E-content Development. Rev. Sr. Dr. Lilly, Secretary released the logo of the Centre which was designed by Ms. Amirthavarshini, I M.Sc. Vis.Com. Dr. S. Senthilnathan released 8 E-lessons prepared by the core team members in the form of I Series (2017-2018) and viewed the e-lessons and gave his valuable suggestions. View Gallery 1

Aim and Objectives of the Centre:


The aim of the Centre is to reach the maximum online beneficiaries through sharing staff expertise and equipping the students to face the challenges of e- Scenario and also enable the campus to become a i-campus (Intelligent campus)


The objectives:


  • To motivate and facilitate the staff members develop e- contents on their own through continuous training sessions and workshops.

  • To encourage all the staff members develop e- contents every year as per the stipulated time schedule. The developed e contents should be presented to the students in order to make the learning experience better.

  • To make the students experience Edu tech scenario, all the staff are encouraged to post academic writings/ materials/ assignments and seminar portions through. Staff Blog Id.

  • To increase the use of Smart boards for interactive and more effective teaching learning.

MoU Signing:


Holy Cross College signed an MoU on 21st December 2017 with Mac Tech Engineering , registered as a partnership Firm, Bangalore to provide technical support to design the e content modules with the teaching contents provided by the staff members.

Modality:


1. All the newly recruited teachers are oriented towards preparation of E–contents/ Video lessons in their field of expertise.

2. A Schedule for E- content/ video lesson shooting is prepared and the video makings are conducted as per the stipulated schedule.

3. The footage of e- materials is collected by the individual faculty from the Centre of E-content Development. Records of videos made and materials received are maintained.

4. The core member of each department forms a “Subject Expert Committee” with the concern of the Head of the Department to evaluate the e contents/ video lessons prepared by the members of the staff.

5. The scrutiny team evaluates by screening the e materials and state the category recommended/ not recommended and issues the “Certificate of Audit”. The evaluation Criteria is based on content standard, language and teaching technique.

6. Only the recommended e- materials will be published on the Holy Cross Website for open learning.


A vision for the future:


- By the year 2023, the members of the staff will be able to increase the number of MHRD funded e materials

- By the year 2025, 60% of teaching and learning will be digital.

- By the year 2027, Holy Cross College will be a i campus.
