PG & Research Department of Chemistry comes under DBT- STAR College Scheme. At present, the Department has 21 vibrant faculty members and around 20 research scholars. The department is well supported by one store keeper and six lab assistants. The Department celebrated its Platinum Jubilee during the year 2009-2010. An overall restructuring of the laboratory practices have been done and green chemistry practicals are carried out till date. Many faculty members have undertaken several sponsored research projects funded by various national funding agencies such as UGC, DST, CSIR and TNSCST. The curriculum has been suitably modified to meet the challenging needs of the Indian Society. At present the department has three laboratories for regular classes and one laboratory for research. The important research fields concentrated by the department are Phytochemistry, Nano chemistry, Green chemistry, Corrosion, Kinetics, Electrochemistry and Adsorption studies. The students of chemistry have ready access to the FIST- department library, shelved with 950 titles of recent books in many fields of chemistry. The Department has published more than 142 research papers in many Journals of National and International repute. All the class rooms are fitted with LCD projectors.

Every year the Department has been conducting CSIR-NET/SET Coaching classes for Post Graduate students, Exhibition, Intercollegiate Competition, International Scientist Meet, Industrial Visit and Educational tour are as mandatory. A Newsletter of the Department “Chem.Com” is published every year.
