History

A significant milestone in the history of the Department of Commerce, Holy Cross College, Trichy was the introduction of B.Com (With Specialization in Computer Applications) in the year 2004. B.Com. with Specialization in Computer Applications is a combination of business and computer applications. It has a broad range of applications in many industries that combine Commerce and Computer Applications. This under-graduate programme is designed to provide students with knowledge of various aspects of computer technology that are related to Commerce. The key objectives of the programme are to impart quality education and enhance business acumen. The curriculum has been specifically designed to disseminate knowledge in emerging areas with strong foundations in the fundamental concepts of various computer programming. The curriculum is updated in response to changes in industry and commerce. Students who successfully complete this programme can further pursue M.Com., M.B.A., M.A. HRM, M.Com., with Computer Applications, M.Com., with any other specialization, CA, CMA, CS and other professional courses related to Commerce. Thus, this programme develops in students an increasing higher order thinking skills, prepares them to face challenges in the industrial and business fields and who will be able to perform E-Banking, E-Marketing, with the help of E-Learning. The relevance of computer in business is mounting each and every day. Commerce with Computer Applications established in 2004 is a blend in the fields of commerce and computer. It offers a program of study to meet the significant increase in demand for Computer Professionals with an accounting background. Providing both the technical Skills for Computer Applications, Accounting and Business skills of a Commerce degree, the course enhances student's knowledge of both the business and the IT Sectors, and gives them considerable flexibility in career choice. This course educates students to design and build e-commerce and e-business systems and to develop their understanding of current trends in this rapidly- evolving new technology. This program is meant to heighten the analytical skills of the students which are mandatory in today’s data world. This course specifically focuses on educating students to design websites, build e-commerce, e-business systems and also develops their understanding in current trends. It also intensely aids the students to explore in related fields such as law, banking, business and management. The Commerce CA course inculcates the student’s skill to handle computer which has become an inevitable source to keep in pace with the evolving business world. The department through its creative and technological teaching methodology enables the students to be placed in eminent companies.
