COURSE OFFERED – UG Part I Language – FRENCH
2005 French exhibition -a contribution to the exhibition of Holy Cross College – highlighted the past history of French like French Revolution and the effects of it on the French people especially the young women and the intervention of Mother Foundress -CLAUDINE ECHERNIER in response and the congregation of the sisters of the CROSS OF CHAVANOD. The present achievements and progress of the country ,France and their customs and Culture are depicted. Some games too were incorporated to it, in order to teach French to the visitors. “France , it’s past and present- in a nutshell.
2006 – Students participated in French singing competition in the zonal level. Selected to State Level at ALLIANCE Â FRANCAISE at Chennai.The students participated in the French intercollegiate competition RENDEZ – VOUS at Fatima College – Madurai, and won prizes for 8 events out of 10 events conducted and also won the Runners- up shield.
2007 – conducted a ONE DAY seminar on “IMPORTANCE OF FRENCH IN THIS GLOBALISED ERA – on 2nd March 2007at Sophy’s Hall of this college – the Literary Session was Taken over by DR.G.F. XAVIER RAJ ,Prof & Hod ,Dept. of Foreign Languages, Loyola college Chennai .In the cultural session the students participated in the French inter-departmental competitions such as French Quiz ,French singing, Dumb charades ,Group dance, Solo dance ,Pencil sketching , Poetry Recitation ,Collage, Essay writing and Role play -Ended with the valedictory function . HOLFREST -2007 French Association inaugural was presided over by Rev.sr. JACQULINE GABRIEL – an Indian Missionary to France .She spoke on “French Culture and her lived experience in France”.
2008 – HOLFREST- CULTURAL DAY – an inter – departmental competition of 10 events Such as French Essay writing ,Connaissez – vous , French elocution , French Poetry recitation , French quiz,French dumbcharades, French singing , As you Like it with 3 compulsory French items, Western solo dance, western group Dance and prizes were given to the winners. HOLFREST-2008 French Association Inaugural on 21st August 2008.REV.SR. LISIEUX THERESE presided over and talked on “The French People and their Customs .She added flavor to it through her experience there. This was Followed by French cultural programmes by the students.
2009 HOLFREST – CULTURAL DAY was conducted – In this inter departmental Competition Mrs.L GEETHA SREE- the French teacher of St.Joseph’s Anglo Indian Hr. Sec.School presided over and delivered the speech on “French- In this new era” . She was one of the judges for the 10 events such as French Essay writing ,French poetry recitation, French Elocution , Pencil sketching of French personalities , French quiz, French Dumbcharades , French singing, As you like it with 3 French items , western dance , Connaissez – vous . HOLFREST -2009 French Association Inaugural on- 14th August 2009. REV. SR . PETRONILLA ,Campus Minister of this college presided over And spoke on “The speciality of French people and the values they uphold.-The students enacted a French drama and gave some cultural programmes.
2005-2009 The students are taken for a study tour and based on their experience, they get a question for their exam.
INFRA STRUCTURE :
In 2005 the Department of French is shifted from Main Block to C laudine Block Where a spacious class room , airy and bright ,with14 benches and desks, a computer , 4 fans One cinq and a portion of class room for the teacher’s use , are given. Thus there is better facilities For the students of French.

MANJULA MURALIDHARAN, French professor, Jenny’s Academy, Catering College,Trichy. She spoke on the topic THE NEED TO LEARN FRENCH AND ITS ADVANTAGES, AND THE MARVELS OF CHANGE ONE EXPERIENCES Special invitee : REV : SR ALPHONSE RAJ -a missionary to France who spoke on THE FRENCH CULTURE AND THE VALUES THEY UPHOLD.
