HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

      Department of Computer Science in Holy Cross College was started in the year 1996 with B.Sc. Computer Science. With the increasing demand in Computer Science, B.C.A. (Bachelor of Computer Applications) was started in 1998. The Department shows a metamorphosis in its growth in a short span of time. M.Sc. Computer Science and the long awaited, much sought after M.C.A. (Master of Computer Applications) Courses were started in 1999. Catering to the needs of the Society, P.G.D.C.A. (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications) and DCA (Diploma in Computer Applications) were started in 2002. The department has 6 Ph.D. holders, 9 NET/SET qualified staff members and 24 staff members with M.Phil. degree in Computer Science. Many of the Students are placed in reputed Companies like WIPRO Technologies, SYNTEL, iFlex Solutions, INFOSYS, iGate Solutions, CTS, TCS etc. With the objective to enable youth who are either school/college dropouts or unemployed to take up industry-relevant skill training and benefit in securing a better livelihood, the department started Skill Certification Scheme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The department through Smart India Hackathon (SIH) and Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) initiates a platform to solve the prevailing pressing issues in daily lives, providing an opportunity to work on challenges faced and inculcate a mindset of problem solving, sparking creativity and innovation thereby improving the quality of life. Students have been selected under SIH and attended the competition.

      The department endeavors at enshaping virtuous, socially aware, intellectually alert, scientifically accelerating, professionally excelling, universally proficient, spirited and passionate young IT women experts.
